Phlebotomy Technician

Program Details

Synopsis- This program covers topics and processes critical to venipuncture and drawing lab specimen. The students will review the anatomy and physiology of the body, and particularly the cardiovascular system. The students will explore the technology used such as the venipuncture needles, vacutainers, and blood tubes.

Successful completion of this program will prepare the students to perform the role of Phlebotomy technician. The Phlebotomy Technician program prepares students to work as an entry-level Phlebotomy Technician in hospital settings, outpatient clinics, diagnostic testing centers, labs, nursing and long-term care homes, and private physicians’ practices. Students will be able to measure basic vital signs, position patients correctly for draws, educate patients about procedures, gain access to veins, and complete a blood draw in the correct order.

Students learn patient record charting through a computer program to be able to communicate patient information electronically as needed in a required format. Students will receive a significant foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to enroll in higher level allied health academic career.

This program is taught with a combination of lecture, laboratory, and practical exercises in the medical laboratory. Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be able to receive a certificate of completion for Phlebotomy Technician which makes them eligible to take an entry level job as a Phlebotomy Technician well as to take the National Certification Exam (through NHA).
